Design and development
UX and UI design, design systems and responsive front end for business sites and online stores, built on WordPress and WooCommerce.
About the author
Senior WordPress and WooCommerce engineer and UX/UI designer in Athens, and founder of FDesign. I design, build and run production stores end to end: the interface, the custom plugins, the WooCommerce data layer and the managed hosting the stores run on.
Background
My training is in design. I studied at the Technical School of Applied Arts in Athens, then took a BA in Graphic Design at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens, with an Erasmus semester at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, and in 2021 a specialisation in product design and 3D printing at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. My first design work, in 2008, was for an architectural office in Athens, followed by educational books and logo design at LTH Advertising. For three years at Eworx I produced multilingual reports, handbooks and publications for EU institutions and agencies, which is where I learned to work to strict specifications and deadlines that do not move.
From 2015 the work moved to the web: WordPress and Magento development for hospitality, medical and retail clients, hand-coded HTML email for major brands in Greece such as Papastratos and BMW, built to display correctly in Outlook, Gmail and Yahoo Mail, and Magento front-end development for car parts stores and B2B auto parts platforms.
The same year I started FDesign, and over time the practice grew from design into engineering. Today I take responsibility for the whole of a site: the UX, the theme and plugin code, the hosting and email, the security and the technical SEO. Clients deal with one person who understands every layer, so problems get traced to their cause instead of being passed between suppliers.
Since 2020 I have also worked in-house as the WordPress engineer for a group of supplement e-commerce brands, where I own the stores, the B2B channel and the integrations behind them. That work in a regulated, high-traffic retail environment informs how I build for every client.

Credentials

Founder of FDesign, Senior WordPress and WooCommerce Engineer
Dorothy Fiedor is a senior WordPress and WooCommerce engineer in Athens and the founder of FDesign. She designs, builds and runs production stores end to end, from the UX and the custom plugins to WooCommerce HPOS migrations, ERP and marketplace integrations, and the managed hosting behind them, including PHP-FPM worker tuning and MariaDB upgrades. Since 2020 she has also been the in-house WordPress engineer for a multi-brand supplement e-commerce group.
Her background is in design. She trained in graphic design in Athens and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, has worked as a designer since 2008, produced multilingual publications for EU institutions, and moved to the web in 2015, building WordPress sites, hand-coded HTML email for major brands such as Papastratos and BMW, and Magento front ends for car parts retailers, while growing FDesign alongside. That route from design into engineering is why her work covers the interface, the code and the infrastructure as one job.
BA in Graphic Design, Technological Educational Institute of Athens. Specialisation in product design and 3D printing, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Graduate of the Technical School of Applied Arts, Athens. Polish native speaker, fluent in Greek and English.

Yes. A large part of my work has been for clients in the United Kingdom and elsewhere in Europe. Projects run remotely, in English or Greek.
Usually, yes. I start by reviewing the theme, the plugins and the hosting, then give you a written assessment of whether the site is worth maintaining or would cost less to rebuild.
