Background

From print design to running production stores

My training is in design. I studied at the Technical School of Applied Arts in Athens, then took a BA in Graphic Design at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens, with an Erasmus semester at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, and in 2021 a specialisation in product design and 3D printing at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. My first design work, in 2008, was for an architectural office in Athens, followed by educational books and logo design at LTH Advertising. For three years at Eworx I produced multilingual reports, handbooks and publications for EU institutions and agencies, which is where I learned to work to strict specifications and deadlines that do not move.

From 2015 the work moved to the web: WordPress and Magento development for hospitality, medical and retail clients, hand-coded HTML email for major brands in Greece such as Papastratos and BMW, built to display correctly in Outlook, Gmail and Yahoo Mail, and Magento front-end development for car parts stores and B2B auto parts platforms.

The same year I started FDesign, and over time the practice grew from design into engineering. Today I take responsibility for the whole of a site: the UX, the theme and plugin code, the hosting and email, the security and the technical SEO. Clients deal with one person who understands every layer, so problems get traced to their cause instead of being passed between suppliers.

Since 2020 I have also worked in-house as the WordPress engineer for a group of supplement e-commerce brands, where I own the stores, the B2B channel and the integrations behind them. That work in a regulated, high-traffic retail environment informs how I build for every client.

How I write and publish

Editorial standards

Articles and guides on this site are written for site owners who need to make decisions about their own sites. These are the rules I hold them to.

  1. Written from practice. I write about work I do myself. Where an article draws on a client project, identifying details are removed unless the client has agreed to be named.
  2. Sourced. Technical claims link to primary sources: official documentation, published standards and the vendors' own announcements.
  3. AI use is disclosed. Where AI tools assist with research or drafting, I review and edit the result, and the article says so.
  4. Dated and maintained. Every article shows when it was published and when it was last updated. When the guidance changes, I revise the article rather than leave it standing.
  5. Corrected openly. If you find an error, email [email protected]. Factual corrections are made promptly and noted on the article.

What does Dorothy Fiedor specialise in?

WordPress and WooCommerce engineering for online stores and business sites: custom plugins, HPOS migrations, ERP and marketplace integrations, performance and security, and the managed hosting the sites run on. She also designs the interfaces, so projects stay with one person from the first sketch to the server.

Do you work with clients outside Greece?

Yes. A large part of my work has been for clients in the United Kingdom and elsewhere in Europe. Projects run remotely, in English or Greek.

Can you take over a site someone else built?

Usually, yes. I start by reviewing the theme, the plugins and the hosting, then give you a written assessment of whether the site is worth maintaining or would cost less to rebuild.

Do you work alone or with a team?

FDesign is my own practice. You work directly with me from the first call to delivery, and I remain your point of contact after launch.

How do I start a project?

Send the address of your site, or a short description if it does not exist yet, through the contact form. I reply personally with questions or a proposed next step.
