What it is
What does WooCommerce development include?
WooCommerce development is the design, build and setup of an online shop on WordPress with WooCommerce: the catalogue, the product pages, the cart and checkout, payments, shipping, taxes, invoicing, and the connections to the systems the business already runs.
The difference between a shop that sells and one that only exists is mostly in the parts nobody sees in a demo: how fast a product page opens on a phone, whether the checkout asks for anything it does not need, whether the courier voucher prints itself, and whether the shop meets the rules that changed in 2025 and 2026. That is where the work goes.
WooCommerce is open source, so the shop, its data and its code belong to you and can be moved to any host or developer. If you only need a company website, the business website service is the lighter option.
It is the right choice if
- you sell physical products and want the shop, the data and the code in your own name
- your customers pay by card with instalments, by IRIS or cash on delivery, and expect lockers
- the products should also appear on marketplaces and in Google Shopping
- orders, stock or invoices need to reach an ERP or an invoicing provider
- you sell to trade customers with their own prices, or plan to

What you get
What comes with every e-shop
Six things every shop gets, whatever its size. The tiers differ in how many products, languages and connections are involved.
A design of your own
Home, category, product, cart and checkout designed around what you sell and shown to you before the build, on a light theme rather than a heavy page builder.
A checkout people finish
One page, guest checkout allowed, and the payment methods shoppers use: cards with instalments where your bank offers them, IRIS, cash on delivery, Apple Pay and Google Pay through the gateway.
Shipping that prints itself
Couriers such as ACS, ELTA Courier, Geniki or Speedex and a parcel locker network, with rates set by weight or area and vouchers created from the order.
The 2026 rules built in
Withdrawal button, product safety details, the lowest price of the last 30 days on sales, a cookie banner where refusing is as easy as accepting, and accessible templates.
Speed and search
Core Web Vitals checked on a phone, product structured data for Google, a Merchant Center feed, clean URLs, and shipping and return details that search engines can read.
Yours, with training
Domain, hosting, admin and plugin licences in your name, a session on running the shop yourself, and thirty days of fixes after launch.
No rental, no lock-in
Some shops are sold on a monthly rental with a minimum term of several years, and the business never owns what it pays for. Here the build is paid once, the software is open source, and every account is opened in your name, so you can change host or developer whenever you like.
The 2026 rules
What an online shop has to show its customers in 2026
Consumer, tax and accessibility rules for online shops changed more between 2025 and 2026 than in the ten years before. These are the ones a WooCommerce shop has to handle in its templates and settings, for shops selling in Greece, in Cyprus and anywhere else in the EU.
A withdrawal button WITHDRAWAL
Since 19 June 2026 a shop selling to consumers must let them withdraw online. Greece set the details in Law 5317/2026: a button reading "Πατήστε εδώ για υπαναχώρηση" or equally clear wording, a separate confirmation step, and an acknowledgement sent at once with the date and time. Cyprus did the same in Law 30(I)/2026. I also publish a withdrawal button plugin for WooCommerce.
Product safety details GPSR
Since 13 December 2024 every product listing must show the manufacturer's name and postal and electronic address, what the product is, pictures, and any warnings or safety information in the shopper's language. These go into the product template as fields, so they cannot be forgotten on a new product.
Sales and the previous price OMNIBUS
When a price is reduced, the shop must show the lowest price of the previous 30 days, and the percentage has to be calculated on that price. The shop records price history and shows it on the product page, so a sale label does not turn into a legal risk.
Accessibility EAA
Since 28 June 2025 the European Accessibility Act applies to online shops, in Greece through Law 4994/2022. Businesses with fewer than ten people and a turnover up to €2 million are exempt, and even they gain from a shop that works with a keyboard and a screen reader, because more people can buy from it.
Receipts and invoices MYDATA
Greek retail receipts must reach myDATA through a certified provider, an ERP or a direct integration. B2B e-invoicing reaches every remaining Greek business on 1 October 2026 and is the only valid route from 1 January 2027, so trade orders need an invoice route as well.
IRIS payments IRIS
Since 1 November 2025 businesses in Greece, including online shops, must accept IRIS instant payments. It costs the shopper nothing and the shop less than a card payment, and the money arrives almost at once.

Choosing a platform
WooCommerce or Shopify: which one fits your shop?
Both are good platforms. They cost money in different places, and they suit different shops. This is the honest comparison, including the parts where Shopify is the better choice.
| Question | Shopify | WooCommerce |
|---|---|---|
| Platform fee | From €19 a month on the Basic plan, billed yearly, rising with the plan | None. You pay for hosting, which you would need anyway |
| Using your own bank's gateway | An extra fee per order, 2% on Basic down to 0.6% on Advanced | No platform fee on top of what the bank charges |
| Local payments, couriers, feeds, invoicing | Mostly through third-party apps, each with its own monthly fee | Plugins from the providers themselves, and custom code where they stop |
| Ownership | Your data can be exported, but the shop runs on their platform, under their terms | Code, database and hosting are yours, and can move anywhere |
| Upkeep | Updates and security handled by the platform | Updates and security are your responsibility, or a maintenance plan's |
| Best for | A small catalogue, no integrations, and no wish to deal with a developer | Local integrations, custom rules, trade customers and shops that rely on content for search |
I build on WooCommerce. If your shop is a better fit for Shopify, the free 20-minute call will say so, and you will not be talked into a build you do not need.
How it works
How an e-shop gets built, from first call to first order
Free call
20 minutes on what you sell, how you deliver it and which systems are involved. You leave knowing which tier fits, or whether you need a shop at all.
Book the callFixed offer
Products, languages, payments, couriers, feeds, integrations, the price and the launch date, in writing. Half is paid when you accept it, half at launch.
Design first
The key pages are designed and approved before the build, so you see the shop before a line of it is coded.
Built on a copy
The shop is built on a staging site with your own products, and test orders run through every payment method and courier before anyone real can buy.
Launch and training
Redirects, Search Console and Merchant Center are set up, you learn to run the shop yourself, and anything that does not work as agreed is fixed free for thirty days.
Shops built, run and maintained over years
Most of what this page promises comes from stores that are still trading, and from keeping them running after launch rather than handing them over and leaving.
Shops behind this page
- Monobio, organic supplements and cosmetics: WooCommerce shop designed, built and maintained from 2020 to 2023
- Natural Vitamins: B2B wholesale shop on WooCommerce since 2022, with case and box ordering for trade customers
- A multi-brand supplement group, engineered in house since 2020: HPOS migrations, ERP and marketplace integrations, server tuning
- Magento front ends for Konstantino Jewelry and the CarSite B2B spare parts shop, built for agencies in 2018
What that brings to your shop
- Orders that reach the ERP within about 30 seconds, from a connection that has run for years
- Knowledge of both platforms a migration usually touches, Magento and WooCommerce
- Knowing what breaks after an update, because these shops are maintained, not just delivered
- A withdrawal button plugin already written for the 2026 rule
See the Monobio, Natural Vitamins B2B, Konstantino Jewelry and CarSite B2B projects in the portfolio.
After launch
A shop is software that meets new rules, new plugin versions and new payment methods every year. You can run it yourself with the training and the notes left behind, or keep it on a maintenance plan. Either way, nothing about the build ties you to me.

Built by the engineer who runs WooCommerce stores every day

Dorothy Fiedor
Founder of FDesign, Senior WordPress and WooCommerce Engineer
Dorothy Fiedor is a senior WordPress and WooCommerce engineer in Athens and the founder of FDesign. She designs, builds and runs production stores end to end, from the UX and the custom plugins to WooCommerce HPOS migrations, ERP and marketplace integrations, and the managed hosting behind them, including PHP-FPM worker tuning and MariaDB upgrades. Since 2020 she has also been the in-house WordPress engineer for a multi-brand supplement e-commerce group.
Her background is in design. She trained in graphic design in Athens and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, produced multilingual publications for EU institutions, and moved to the web in 2015, building WordPress sites, hand-coded HTML email for major brands such as Papastratos and BMW, and Magento front ends for car parts retailers, while growing FDesign alongside. That route from design into engineering is why her work covers the interface, the code and the infrastructure as one job.

FAQ
Questions about WooCommerce e-shops
How much does a WooCommerce e-shop cost?
A complete starter shop with up to 100 products starts at €1,490. A larger shop with up to 2,000 products, two languages, marketplace feeds and an invoicing connection starts at €2,490, and a B2B or ERP-connected shop starts at €3,900. All prices exclude VAT and are fixed in writing before the work starts.
How long does it take to build an e-shop?
Usually 4 to 6 weeks for a starter shop and 6 to 8 weeks for a larger one, counted from the day the offer is accepted and the products and content are ready. B2B and integrated shops get a launch date in the offer.
WooCommerce or Shopify: which is better for my business?
Shopify suits a small catalogue with no integrations and an owner who never wants to think about updates. WooCommerce suits shops that need local payment methods, couriers, marketplace feeds, an invoicing route or an ERP, and owners who want the code and data in their own name. Shopify charges a monthly plan and an extra fee per order when you use your own bank's gateway, while WooCommerce has no platform fee but needs updates and security looked after.
Who owns the e-shop, the domain and the hosting?
You do. The domain, the hosting account, the admin access and any paid plugin licences are registered in your name, and the code is open source. You can change host or developer at any time without asking anyone.
Which payment methods should an online shop in Greece offer?
Cards through your bank or a payment provider, ideally with interest-free instalments, IRIS instant payments, which every business in Greece has had to accept since 1 November 2025, and cash on delivery, which still accounts for about half of online orders. PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay are usually added through the same gateway.
Can the shop create courier vouchers and use parcel lockers?
Yes. Couriers such as ACS, ELTA Courier, Geniki and Speedex and a parcel locker network can be connected so that shipping costs are calculated at checkout and vouchers are created from the order, without retyping addresses.
Can my products appear on marketplaces and Google Shopping?
Yes. The shop generates product feeds in the format each marketplace asks for and a feed for Google Merchant Center, with prices, stock, EAN codes and VAT kept in step with the shop.
How are receipts and invoices sent to myDATA from a WooCommerce shop?
Through a certified invoicing provider or your ERP, connected to the shop so that each paid order issues its receipt or invoice without retyping. Retail receipts already have to reach myDATA, and B2B e-invoicing applies to every remaining Greek business from 1 October 2026. Your accountant confirms the tax side.
Does my e-shop need a withdrawal button?
If you sell to consumers in the EU, yes, since 19 June 2026. In Greece, Law 5317/2026 asks for a clearly labelled button, a separate confirmation step and an acknowledgement sent straight away with the date and time, available for the whole withdrawal period. It is built into every new shop and can be added to an existing one.
Does the European Accessibility Act apply to my shop?
It has applied to online shops since 28 June 2025. Businesses with fewer than ten people and a turnover up to €2 million are exempt, while everyone else must make shopping, identification and payment usable for people with disabilities. New shops are built on accessible templates either way.
How must a discount be shown on the product page?
Next to the sale price, the shop must show the lowest price of the previous 30 days, and any percentage has to be calculated on that price. The shop keeps a price history so the right figure appears automatically.
Can you move my shop to WooCommerce without losing Google rankings?
A migration done carefully keeps most rankings. Every URL Google has indexed gets a redirect to its new address, titles and descriptions move across, and Search Console is watched for weeks after launch so that anything missed is caught early. Products, customers and orders move with the shop.
What is HPOS, and should my shop switch to it?
High-Performance Order Storage keeps orders in their own database tables instead of the general WordPress tables, which makes order screens and checkout faster. It has been the default for new shops since WooCommerce 8.2. Older shops can switch once every plugin they use is compatible, which is what the migration checks first.
Why is my WooCommerce shop slow, and can it be fixed?
Usually because of heavy themes and page builders, too many plugins, unoptimised images, or a server that was never tuned for a shop. A tune-up measures the product and category pages on a phone, removes what is not needed, and tunes caching, PHP and the database where the host allows it.
Can I manage the products and orders myself?
Yes. Every shop comes with a training session and short written notes on adding products, handling orders, running sales and issuing refunds, so the day-to-day work stays with you.
Can you build a B2B or wholesale shop?
Yes. Trade customers can log in to their own prices, order by case or box with minimum quantities, pay on account and see their order history, alongside or separate from the retail shop.
Do you build shops for businesses outside Greece?
Yes. Shops are designed and built remotely, in Greek or English, for businesses in Greece, Cyprus and any other country, with the payment providers and couriers of the markets you sell to. Businesses elsewhere in the EU with a VAT number are invoiced under the reverse charge, so no Greek VAT is added.
Tell me what you sell and how you deliver it
A few lines are enough: what you sell, roughly how many products, how customers pay, and whether the shop needs to talk to anything else. You get back the tier that fits and its price, or a straight answer that you need less than you thought.
If you already have a shop, send its address. A quick look before the call makes the conversation far more useful.
Fixed price agreed before the work starts. Thirty days of fixes after launch. Everything in your name.
